First, I just want to say that I have done NO riding. None. My bikes glare at me with derision when I see them in their cold, quiet room. Because of that and the non-stop eating of anything I see due to quitting smoking, I've not only gained back what I lost earlier this year, but I've added some more to keep it company. I am FAT.
This really has to stop. Today is the 5 month mark since I quit smoking. I am STILL taking the Commit nicotine lozenges. Every time I try to stop taking them, I get bitchy(er), (more) belligerent, (more) lethargic, and I have anxiety attacks. I need something to take my mind off of it. Cycling might do that. Of course, I'm a big wuss and don't like riding when it's overly cold, wet, or whatever. I borrowed a trainer, but I haven't set it up. Honestly, I'm afraid my fat ass will break it.
So, here I am morphing into Jabba the Cyclist. Yay.
I'm writing (whining) about all of this here because I tend to address things if they're in print for all to see. It is time to DO something. Losing weight is the first priority. Since I know I will fail if I demand that I ride during the winter, I'm going to focus on diet modification again. I lost 25 pounds or so earlier this year that way...I just didn't stick to it. So, that's my plan. A permanent change of eating habits. Even with no activity, that alone will make 30-50 pounds of weight loss feasible.
If a warm, dry day presents itself, I will try to get out and ride. I don't have much else to do, being semi-laid off from the shop. I'll put the trainer together and try to endure riding it some. And I'll stop whining and bitching about how fat I am and how little I've been riding.
Other news:
I've decided that not only will I get in some shape other than ovoid this year, but I'll also complete at least one brevet (randonneuring), ride the Morse Lake Metric again, and will ride RAGBRAI this year. I have to do the RAGBRAI thing...I had to bail last year, AND I'm on a team this year. Gotta do it.
The shop is instituting a new policy this year. Shop employees have to ride new bikes (that we sell). This applies to public rides only, of course. So, all employees get a new bike of their choice to ride for the year. At the end of the year, we can buy them or sell them for the shop. The bikes will be purchased for EP price, if possible, so I can afford to get a decently equipped new bike finally. My choice? The 2009 Look 566 with SRAM Rival. Retails for $2495. That's what I'll have to ride at the Morse Lake Metric, the Hilly Hundred, and any other organized rides that I do this year. I plan to buy it at the end of the year, of course.
As such, the nice, black carbon bike you saw in my last blog entry is up for sale. I'll be listing it on eBay today. For those who are interested in buying or selling bikes or parts, there's a new website for people to buy or sell for FREE. The bike is listed there too, of course. http://www.usbiketrader.com/
As I mentioned above, I'm hoping to ride at least one brevet this year. That means, obviously, that I've decided that randonneuring might be cool. As such, I am seriously considering buying the 2009 Masi Randonneur. It will need some changes, and I'll have to sell at least one of my bikes, but damn is it gorgeous! It looks like my time with the Alare might be coming to an end. *sniff*
I reckon that's all for now. Thanks for reading, and Happy Holidays, Merry Yule, whatever you decide to celebrate (or not).
